To make homemade dog soap, combine the contents of the two cups of mild soap in a basin or medium-sized bowl, then add the two cups of water and apple cider vinegar. Stir until the mixture is homogeneous, and once this consistency is reached, add the two cups of glycerin and stir again until all the ingredients are well blended. If you managed to recover some aloe extract, add it now to the mixture. Aloe is good for your dog’s coat, as it makes it healthier and shinier.

Use a funnel to fill the shampoo jar with the dog soap mixture. Close the bottle tightly and stick a clearly visible label on it so that no one uses this soap by mistake.

What about making natural soap at home?

It is not uncommon for dog owners to want to bathe their pets using homemade soaps with natural ingredients; in fact, industrial soaps often contain substances that are harmful to the skin of dogs.

To make homemade natural soap you need:

  • oat flour
  • sodium bicarbonate
  • hot water
  • a large vessel
  • a vial of shampoo

Natural homemade dog soap is made by mixing a cup of oat flour in the bowl (if you can’t grind it, you can beat the oats with an electric beater until flour is obtained) together with a cup of baking soda and ¼ cup of warm water. Mix well until you get a homogeneous mixture and your natural soap is ready.

With the help of a funnel, fill a shampoo bottle with the mixture, and it will be possible to use the soap several times. It is important to remember to affix a clearly visible label so that no one confuses it with a shampoo for men.

To make a homemade dog soap you need:

  • 1 liter of olive oil (can be new or used)
  • 50 g of beeswax
  • 135 g of sodium hydroxide
  • 338 g of distilled water
  • aloe vera
  • essential oils of cedar, mint, lavender, eucalyptus, lemongrass, tea tree and geranium.

Before starting, it will be advisable to position yourself in a ventilated area of the house and use protective goggles and gloves (sodium hydroxide is very corrosive and must never come into contact with the skin). Do not use metal containers but only stainless steel, and to mix the mixture you will need a wooden or plastic ladle.

To prepare the soap, start by melting the wax in a saucepan in a bain-marie together with the oil. Separately, in another saucepan, mix the sodium hydroxide into the distilled water (it is important to perform this step in a well-ventilated place). When the hydroxide has dissolved in the water, add the mixture into the oil with the wax and mix well. It is important that the mixture of water and oil are at the same temperature when you go to mix them.

Mix the mixture evenly and always towards the same side to ensure that the soap does not clump, until it has acquired a creamy consistency. To make the soap fragrant, add natural herbs or essential oils at this point.

As soon as the mixture has thickened, pour it into the previously floured and greased plastic molds. Let the soap rest until it becomes hard, and once it reaches that consistency, take it out of the mold.
