Reasons To Love A Large Dog

Reasons to love a large breed dog

Large breed dogs are victims of certain prejudices that are not always true. The high height of these specimens facilitates their training, even if it does not appear. What’s more, they are also better suited to living with children.

The character and personality of large breed dogs

Great Dane

One of the reasons to love a large dog, regardless of its size, is its behavior. In fact, many large dogs are docile and quiet, even moving much less around the house than a small dog.

Another myth about large dogs is that they cannot live in an apartment or house that is not too large. Although it is always good to have enough space for your pet, in the case of large dogs, despite their large size, they usually adapt immediately to an apartment or other type of home with little space.

Even the height of the dog does not decisively determine its personality. There are, in fact, other factors that affect his character, such as whether he is purebred or mixed-race.

The owner’s personality is also an important variable when deciding whether to adopt a small or large dog. Let’s imagine that the person in question is a lover of long walks and that he likes to spend a lot of time outdoors. In this case, the ideal will be a not too small, dynamic, active and vigorous dog.

A large breed dog for children

Children can also be the necessary inflection point when choosing which dog to adopt. There are animals whose dimensions are more adequate than others in this sense. Keep this in mind when choosing the dog that will have to live with the little ones of the house.

If there is a newborn in the house, during his first steps  the little one can lean on his dog friend to start walking. It is important to know that in the presence of children it is better to avoid having very small dogs in the house. Their small size, in fact, makes them more vulnerable to slightly naughty children.

Logically, a large dog will suffer much less if the child gets on top of him, grabs him by the tail, etc.

The best training for a large breed dog

The pace of life that all of us lead nowadays can lead to preferring a very large  or large dog. A dynamic person, as we have seen, a lover of outdoor sports or long walks, can find the perfect companion in a large breed dog.

Another important detail is the fact that a very tall dog looks at his master almost at eye level. All the more reason to understand that large dogs are easier to train.

The car and transport

As you can imagine, if you are in the habit of traveling, it will not always be possible to take a very large dog with you from one place to another. It is not the same to be accompanied by a small four-legged friend than by a large one.

Age and physical constitution of the owner

A person’s age and physical capacity are two other factors that can tip the balance in favor or against choosing a large dog. It is not easy for any person to manage an animal of considerable weight.

Not everyone, therefore, can control a dog that weighs more than 35 kilos. If the person is elderly or does not have the necessary strength, the walk will become very complicated.

Are they more affectionate?

It is said that large breed dogs are, in many cases, more affectionate than smaller ones. This especially happens when smaller dogs are very nervous. In this case, it is more difficult for them to establish a strong bond with their master.

Statistically, it can be said that large breed dogs show their love for their owner more easily than smaller ones. For example, large dog breeds famous for their particularly affectionate character are Dalmatians, Newfoundlands and Labrador Retrievers.

Better protection

If we are looking for a dog that can protect us and make us feel safe, a large breed dog is best .  Taller, heavier-looking dogs are more intimidating to strangers. Not surprisingly, these breeds have been used as guard dogs for centuries.
