The rules for a good coexistence must be respected by all family members, and dogs are no exception.

If you arrive at the house and surprise your little friend intent on tearing up your favorite slippers, or some of your plants, you must point out his mistake. But be careful! In order for the reprimand to be successful, you need to keep a few things in mind:

Never call your dog by name when you scold him. Because? Several studies state that associating the dog’s name with a negative event leads the dog to repeat this behavior again and again.

So, what is to be done?

If you catch your dog just as he is misbehaving, you need to talk to him calmly. Avoid shouting and don’t call him by name.

Simply let him know that he is misbehaving.  But don’t wait long. A late scolding, in addition to being useless, reinforces some negative behaviors.

Never ever hit the dog. This way nothing is solved. If you catch your dog ruining some furniture in the house, scold him, but without raising your voice or hands.

Your tone must be firm and confident.

Why do dogs misbehave?

First of all we must remember that dogs are animals. However much you may treat them as family members (of course they are), they cannot change their nature. This means that some behaviors and behaviors are inherent in their instincts.

For example, if your dog destroys some of your favorite books into smithereens, he may be trying to let you know that he needs more exercise or that they are bored.

This means that by changing this aspect, for example by giving him more exercise, his conduct can improve.

How do you improve a dog’s behavior?

Socialization is a key point. If your dog has not been well socialized from an early age, it is likely that his behavior may be affected in the future.

Perhaps, when you approach him, he ignores you or even tries to attack you. Therefore, when you want to introduce a new member into your home, it is very important to know where they come from, what their habits are and if they have been socialized correctly.

If your dog doesn’t stop messing around and is constantly trying to get attention, he may need to get more exercise. Do you take your dog for a walk every day? What’s his routine?

Depending on their breed and age, dogs need at least three outings per day. If your little friend doesn’t get this kind of attention on a daily basis, he’ll probably get bored and start destroying your favorite items.

What if he gets sick? Dogs are very good at masking their discomfort. If in doubt, take your pet to the vet.
