– If the paloma misunderstood
In 1969, a young and talented Catalan singer-songwriter surprised with lines that read: “ The dove was wrong , / he was wrong. / to go north he went south, / believed that wheat was water. / (…) He believed that the sea was the sky / that the night was the morning. / May the stars dew / May the heat snow ”.
Serrat, however, who included this beautiful song on his album entitled La Paloma , is not the author of the lyrics. The verses belong to the great Spanish poet Rafael Alberti. The music, on the other hand, is by the Argentine Carlos Guastavino.
– P alom a blanca
Dutch musician George Baker recorded this song in 1975 which, a year later, became a huge success all over Europe. The song is written in English although the title is in Spanish and is repeated several times in the text.

– Paloma y laurel
This song refers to an ancient and not very widespread folkloric musical style of Argentine origin. The composer César Isella used it to set the verses of the great poet Armando Tejada Gómez to music.
This is how this beautiful song was born, of which we share and translate some verses: “A little dove / came wounded up to the valleys. / Colored chest / like embers of air. (…) You have to fly, / you have to return / to the warm nest / of the sunset. / On the nest / I like to see / in the afternoon / dove and laurel “.

The band was formed in the 60s and is considered one of the most plagiarized in the history of Mexican music. Its members changed several times from the origins and many former members even carried the name of the group with them.
However, we can say that, with the recent death of Lupe Tijerina, the last of the authentic Cadetes has also left us. El palomito has nearly 23 million views on Youtube. Really a record.
-The Dove
Another song dedicated to doves composed by the British singer-songwriter Ewan MacColl, together with his wife Peggy Seeger. In the 1960s the song was recorded by Pete Seeger (Peggy’s half-brother) and also by the North American singer Judith Collins.
“The dove is a beautiful bird, it sings as it flies. / He brings us good news and tells no lies. / He drinks the waters of the spring to clear his throat / when he builds his nest, summer is near ”. The piece, of a strong anti-war nature, undoubtedly marked an era.
