Imam Of Istanbul Opens His Mosque To Stray Cats

The stray cats of the Imam of Istanbul
Mustafa Ele has been leading this mosque for some years now. He has always been a great lover of animals, especially cats. Every day, going to and from his mosque, he couldn’t help but see so many stray cats and feel a squeeze in his heart.
Sometimes he stopped to greet them or to caress them, but he knew well that this was not enough. He kept wondering where his little friends were going to take refuge during the harsh Turkish winter.
This idea sometimes kept him awake at night, thinking of a solution. The place where the Imam worked was large enough to house several cats. On the other hand, the Quran encourages love for animals and does not prohibit them from entering mosques. So why not find in his mosque a warm place for cats to take refuge at night, especially in winter? This, for him, was a wonderful idea.
How did the faithful react?
This was an aspect that certainly worried the imam. His new but somewhat unusual initiative could have caused endless arguments or quarrels. Nonetheless, Mustafa was determined to move forward with his project. His mustachioed friends needed it and he wasn’t willing to back down.
To his surprise, when the cats began to fill the mosque, the faithful reacted very positively.
In the photos that the imam has posted on facebook, several faithful can be seen stroking and playing with cats. Some people have gotten into the habit of bringing food and many have asked to be allowed to adopt one of the cats. A good result, don’t you think?
A curious little fact
Many stray cats arrived at the Imam Ele mosque, but there was a special case that surprised and touched everyone.
One day a kitten had timidly looked out to see what was happening in the mosque. Mustafa called her, but she was rather shy and immediately ran away.
The imam, a little disappointed, forgets the episode shortly after. Some time later, the same kitten returned with a kitten in her mouth. He left it in a corner of the mosque, and then walked away.
A few moments later he returned with another kitten, until he brought them all. Mustafà immediately understood that the cat was looking for a safe place for her kittens. Once they were all settled, the cat stayed with them and became one of the most loved by the faithful.
